Simply Awesome!
I put these on a gift registry. I used them for the first time today, and here are my initial impressions. ****Dec 12 2010 update: I use these towels everyday. When I need a new one, I dig through the "others" in the linen closet to make sure I get one of these.
Delivery & Gift packaging: Superb. Arrived on the exact day I was expecting them. Beautiful & sturdy cardboard gift boxes that I'll definitely use again. Each set (bath, hand, & washcloth) was wrapped in a plastic bag inside an individual box. I didn't notice a strong smell, and didn't really care because of course things like this should be washed before their first use.
First time through the washer: I followed the care instructions, which recommend gentle cycle, cold water. As with anything new, I washed them separately so I can't comment on whether the colors bled. I haven't figured out if the slight odor is from the towels or the new brand of detergent my wife just got. Will have to update...

Well made but not to our taste
These bamboo towels are very well made, the dyes have held, the stitching is great, I have nothing to complain about as regards their design or manufacture. But it turns out that my wife and I don't like bamboo towels as well as traditional cotton towels. I fully believe that other people absolutely love them. Here are the attributes that you will either love, or not: They are perhaps 1/3 as thick as cotton towels, yet weigh the same; they are much more dense. Because of that density, they have an _unbelievable_ amount of "drape" to them, in the same way that a very expensive dress or pair of pants does; they hang off your body and pull towards the floor. They are silky soft, and somehow that silky softness means that, although they dry as well as cotton towels, they do not "feel" as thirsty.
That's it. It turns out that bamboo towels are not for everybody, even independent of price. If you know you like bamboo towels, then by all means, buy these.
Bamboo Towel Set
I was a little concerned when I opened the box and saw the towel set all "squished" in one of those "suck-all-the-air-out" type bags, and they had that "plastic" smell too. So...I stuck them in the dryer for just a few minutes on air only with a dryer sheet and they came out great! I packaged them up and wrapped them as a wedding gift for the lucky couple! They loved them! Have not only gotten a lovely thank you note from the bride (her Mama brought her up right) but an e-mail as well! Now if they only came in bath sheet size...that would make them PERFECT! LOL!
